Details matter, and nobody knows that more than an acupuncturist. Malpractice claims, lawsuits, or even allegations can be the most challenging times you will face, professionally and personally, and that’s when the details will matter most.
With Acupuncture Select by MIEC RRG, you can focus on what you do best, healing your patients, with the peace of mind that you’re covered by a team of experts who understand your unique work and are dedicated to protecting it.
If our team isn’t already in your state, there’s a good chance we will be there soon. Tell us where you practice to get a quote or to learn when coverage will be available.
As you and the acupuncture community develop, maintain, and adapt the standard of care, our offerings will continue to evolve to support you. We don’t dictate the procedures and practices you’re covered for—that’s up to the experts. Our policy provides coverage for you practicing under the scope of your license as defined by your state’s business and professions code, with only a few necessary exclusions.
Let’s dive in.
Flexible limit options
Choose between $1,000,000 per occurrence / $3,000,000 annual aggregate or $2,000,000 per occurrence / $4,000,000 annual aggregate to fit your practice needs.
Consent to settle
All policies include a “consent to settle” clause, ensuring you have a voice in decisions that affect your practice.
Claims-made with pre-paid tail
Our claims-made policies include pre-paid tail coverage for up to 15 years at no additional cost, for added simplicity and continuous protection.
Premises coverage
Coverage for your professional premises is included at no additional cost, for peace of mind when the unexpected happens.
Optional coverage available
Tailor policies with additional optional coverage for ancillary services, cyber liability, personal and advertising injury, and crisis recovery benefits.
We believe transparency matters as much as coverage. While our policy provides broad protection for your scope of practice, there are specific exclusions you should know about. Any claim arising directly or indirectly out of, related to, or resulting from your acts, errors, or omissions in connection with is automatically excluded:
Professional service exclusions:
For many acupuncture practitioners, owning a practice is the pinnacle of the profession. However, ownership introduces additional layers of risk, and accidents happen even in the most carefully maintained practices. Our blanket premises coverage protects you at no additional cost when patients or visitors are injured on your property, and we can even add landlords or lessors as additional insureds to satisfy lease requirements.
Even the most compassionate acupuncturists can receive complaints for any reason and at any time, and many professional licensing bodies have a duty to investigate every single one. These investigations can stretch on for months, disrupting your practice. What starts as a routine complaint can escalate into serious disciplinary action, including fines, suspension, or even complete license revocation. With a $25,000 sub-limit built in, we’ll handle defense costs resulting from an administrative investigation.
Unfortunately, tragic events can touch any healthcare practice, from workplace violence to other unforeseen crises. When these devastating circumstances happen, the last thing you should have to worry about is whether you’re able to support your staff and practice in moving forward. Crisis recovery coverage provides up to $10,000 in eligible expenses to support you and your team through counseling, trauma support, and other essential recovery services. For complete details on what’s covered, please see our Specific Policy Form.
All the ways you care for your patients should be supported, not excluded. That’s why we offer ways to customize your coverage to how you practice. An Ancillary Services Endorsement adds coverage for yoga, Pilates, massage, nutritional counseling, and other services you provide alongside your acupuncture practice with a $1,000,000 sub-limit. Personal and Advertising Injury Coverage protects your reputation and business with coverage for false arrest, malicious prosecution, wrongful eviction, libel, slander, and privacy violations. Cyber Liability Coverage offers eligible policyholders basic limits of $50,000 in annual aggregate coverage** with increased limits available for multimedia liability, security and privacy liability, privacy regulatory defense and penalties, PCI DSS liability, breach event costs, system failure, cyber crime, reward expenses, and Brandguard™.
**Subject to the Master Policy Aggregate Limit: This is a Master Policy written by Tokio Marine HCC, which provides coverage subject to an annual aggregate limit, which is shared by ALL insureds on the policy.
You know details matter in acupuncture, and we believe they matter in your coverage too. We’re committed to offering continued, unique, and tailored coverage that adapts to the changing landscape of acupuncture practice. Because protecting your purpose isn’t just business to us. It’s our passion.
Acupuncture Select is a program of MIEC RRG, a mutual risk retention group. As a mutual company, we have no external shareholders to satisfy. That puts your needs and satisfaction as a member-owner front and center, as it should be.
Our MIEC team has been relentlessly defending all specialties of healthcare professionals against malpractice allegations for 50 years, with 25 of those protecting acupuncturists. Our successful history speaks for itself; over 85% of cases taken to trial result in defense verdicts, and 90% of claims have been closed without indemnity.
No two acupuncturists practice the same, and that’s reflected in the way our coverage options are designed. From premises liability to cyber liability to ancillary service endorsements, and everything in between, we’ve got you covered.
Whether you’re a part-time practitioner or leading an entire acupuncture team, we’ve curated a full suite of coverage solutions to cover the way you practice and how often, so you’re never paying more than you need to.
We’re doing coverage differently with affordable, efficient, and tailored coverage designed for and by acupuncturists who care.

Professional Liability Insurance, also known as malpractice insurance, covers medical professionals for allegations of negligence, medical errors, or omissions during patient care. For acupuncturists, it provides financial protection and legal support if a patient claims your treatment caused harm. Professional liability policies may also provide coverage for administrative matters initiated by a licensing or regulatory body. While not required by most states or licensing boards, it is strongly recommended to protect your practice and personal assets in the event of an allegation/lawsuit.

Yes! Acupuncture Select™ offers coverage for all Licensed Acupuncturists in states where we issue policies [insert link to map]. This includes solo practitioners, group practices, schools, employees, independent contractors, partnerships, and corporations.
Acupuncture Select ™ provides coverage for licensed acupuncturists. Students are typically covered through their school for clinic work and externships. Once you complete your studies and receive your state license, you’ll be eligible to apply.
Yes. Acupuncture Select ™ covers services that fall within your state’s approved scope of practice for licensed acupuncturists. This includes cupping, Gua Sha, herbal therapy, cosmetic/facial acupuncture, microneedling, fertility treatment, pregnancy care, and labor and delivery. Because the scope of practice varies by state, we recommend confirming which services are permitted in your state.
Certain procedures—such as direct moxa, acupuncture for anesthesia, use of non-disposable needles, and practicing outside your licensed scope—are excluded from coverage. If you have questions about whether a specific technique or service is covered, please contact us at info@acupunctureselect.com.
This is a personal decision based your comfortability and overall risk tolerance. In most states there are no prescribed rules/laws requiring malpractice insurance and/or limits. In our experience, the most common coverage limits are $1 million per incident and $3 million annual aggregate. This is generally sufficient for most individual practitioners. For an additional cost, higher limits—such as $2 million/$4 million—are available and typically chosen by larger practices or when required by credentialing organizations or other contractual obligations.
Yes. Telehealth consultations and treatments are covered, as long as they fall within your state’s approved scope of practice and you are properly licensed (or otherwise authorized) in the state where the patient is physically located at the time of treatment. Licensing and telehealth regulations vary by state, so it’s important to confirm requirements before providing care across state lines.
